Spring Hill backs initial plan for parts plants near GM

SPRING HILL – A developer’s plan to buy 162 acres near Spring Hill’s General Motors automotive plant for construction of a more than $50 million automotive-part manufacturing campus has the backing of city planning commissioners.

After unanimous 5-0 approval of a concept Monday, developer NorthPoint Development Group must return in July with detailed plans for the property next month, spelling out details of improvements for Beechcroft Road and other infrastructure upgrades.

NorthPoint President Chad Meyer said the project would create more than 400 new jobs in its first phase with the relocation of two manufacturing companies from Michigan and Ohio respectively to Spring Hill as part of the project’s first phase.
