It’s official: It’s Amazon for large KCK project

It’s official. Amazon.com Inc. will open a huge fulfillment center in Kansas City, Kan., that will bring more than 1,000 new jobs to the area.

Officials with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kan., announced Monday that the online retailer will be the tenant in an 855,0000-square-foot industrial building. The center will handle packing and shipment of smaller items, including books, electronics and toys, according to a release.

Unified Government officials revealed the tenant for a large new industrial project that will bring truckloads of jobs to Kansas City, Kan.

The KCK fulfillment center will be built near the southwest side of Interstate 70 and the Turner Diagonal. UG officials approved industrial revenue bonds for the project a month ago, but said at the time that they could not reveal the tenant.

While the building will have a footprint of 855,000 square feet, plans call for a structure with 2.3 million square feet of usable space.
