Developer pushes for city to rip out long time problem in the River Market

The developer of a River Market apartment building is pushing Kansas City to get rid of old railroad tracks it says are a hazard to drivers, Fox4 Kansas City reports.

Brian Benjamin, a project manager with NorthPoint Development, has started a petition on Change.org asking the city to permanently remove an abandoned rail crossing on 5th Street, just east of Broadway. NorthPoint is developing the RM West Apartments at 228 W. 4th St.

“In discussions with the city. we’ve recommended that they cut out the entire section, pour it back with asphalt,” Benjamin told Fox4. “It’s been a problem for a long time, and it needs to be fixed.
